What does the PhD mean to you personally? 

I'm very glad I did it and because it's a big achievement and I got a lot out of it, even though by the time I got to the third year I was basically fed up with it and couldn't wait for it to end. I see it as a thing that I can look back on, if I ever get a bit depressed or something, and say, 'Oh well, I did that and I finished it and it was a big piece of work and it was good'.
