When did you complete your PhD and how many years did it take you?

I completed it in erm, well I graduated in January 2003 so I was viva'd just before the Christmas and so it took me just over three years.

And how old were you when you started?

I was 25.

Did you do the bulk of it full-time?

Full-time, yes.

And how did you fund your study?

I was awarded a major Scottish studentship by the Scottish government.

Did you work at all before the PhD?

Yes I worked for a year in between my first degree and starting my PhD.

And what did you do?

I worked in a variety of roles, some retail, a little bit of teaching, so mixed really to tide me over through the year.
