So I suppose the motivation for the doctorate was partly that I was fascinated by the study that my MA had started and I wanted a PhD topic that could build on that, that could help me to explore some of those concepts deeper. That was one thing, just fascination with the study at that level. I suppose the other factor was that I was teaching undergraduates overseas and I thought that it would be interesting if I could have a few years teaching in my specialist area and I thought that probably for that I would need not only an MA but also a PhD so this seemed like a good opportunity.
