Can you tell me why you did a PhD?

Primarily because I hadn't finished what I'd come to university to do. I'd always wanted to study history at university, I knew that from a very early age, and really wanted to get hands on, I didn't really feel that an undergraduate course actually did that and also following the dissertation that you did, I'd learnt so much by that process, and although the dissertation was good in terms of the undergraduate stuff I felt I could do it so much better if I had the chance to go back and do it again, and that I had so much more to grow in a sense and I just wasn't finished with university and that was why I wanted to carry on if I could.
