Katie describes how she approaches new environments.
How do you think you've coped with uncertainty and transition?
I think you've got to constantly focus on what you're learning, and in a sense then it's not a transition, there's a consistency throughout it, and that's about learning things, whether you're learning through your doctorate or whether you're learning new skills in a corporate environment – you're just constantly learning and that's what we need all to be doing, and as I say I learnt that in the HR department. You know it is important that you're always developing yourself and stretching yourself and going into new environments because the world is changing so fast, all the time, even if you're in one area, even if I'd stayed at Barclays all the time I would still be faced with constant change and constant environments, different ways of doing things, and the only way to cope with it is to think 'well I'm learning about this now and I'm developing this and I'm getting better at this' and then look at every new challenge as just another opportunity just to find out about stuff and (talks to child: alright) and if you don't mind the fact that you don't know anything, and you'll admit that you don't know anything and you're there to learn, it's easier.
