It was quite clear to me that it was an option probably at the beginning of my final year of undergraduate and I think yes, I think I wanted to try and see if that was going to be possible. I didn't really know at the time what that entailed. But the lifestyle was appealing and I thought, well, the thing I have to do to do is do a Masters. And so I thought 'right, I will do a Masters and then I will see how I get on with that and if I like that and it seems that it is worth while then I will stay on and do a PhD. And if I like that and it seems to work out then I will try and get into academia.'  And so it was a long-term aspiration rather than an ambition maybe is a good way to distinguish the two.
